ARN steep rent increase - negotiable?
Up to Riverview Discussion
Did you guys get an incredibly good deal? I have a while before my renewal but if they were to raise my rent at all I would just go to east coast. Manhattan's population did not grow last quarter for the first time since they started keeping track of it. With all the new buildings going up in Manhattan and NJ, LIC, BK, there is no way that the prices in the rental housing market can continue to climb while demand is going down. Many people have been laid off and have left NY - prices should come down.
I don't think we got a very good deal. We moved in in September so also paid the $500 amenity fee without having a pool, deck or all of the other promised "benefits", plus the construction and all the other nice amenities.. Rents in Manhattan are going down as I hear, so it's even less understandable.

Hi,
So, while I'm thrilled about the upcoming opening of the pool and deck, I was horrified to see the offer for my lease renewal. They're raising my rent TWELVE percent. I knew I'd be priced out in a few years but didn't expect it after one!
Has anyone renewed their lease yet? Is Avalon willing to negotiate at all, or are they just a faceless corporation and you pay what they say?
With a heavy sigh and a pool towel,

Hi!
We are in the same situation. As we signed the contract last november they told us the increase will not be higher than 6 % so we were expecting 6 %, but yesterday morning we had a letter under the door informing us that the increase would be of 20 %. We went to see the management and we were invited to send a letter...they even didnt deny the 6 % promise and just told us that they have changed the policy and decided to raise it to 20 %.
It is obviously too much ... really surprising when you see the poor quality of the service and management. During a month, the trashs were in the corridors, the carpet has never been cleaned, people from other buildings come to the pool (and even threw up inside) and use the BBQ, the so-called doorman forgot everytime to ask identity of the visitors and you find yourself fooled by an arrogant and untouchable management...
Let s get united and give them the advertisement they deserve!!!!
