Anyone also has problems with mosquitos and flies?

I live on the 7th floor of ARN, facing south.
This early morning (5:30) I woke up from unbearable itch. This is not the first time I am heavily bited by those damned mosquitos.
Every night I will close the window and use air conditioner even if the weather is not hot nor humid. But last night the weather was so nice and cool that I couldnot resisting the fresh air. Then mosquitos won again.
In the daytime if I keep windows open there are big annoying flies dwelling in the apartment from time to time.
I asked the leasing office whether I can install a window screen, and they said no, becasue "it might cause safty problem for others".
I really don't understand it! Shall I keep negoiating with them?
Any suggestions? Should I wear anti-mosquito lotion every night when I keep windows open?
Has anyone fixed a mosquito net on top of a queen bed?
Ok. There's a way to expel mosquitos with open windows.
I got some catnip herbs from the local pet store (catnip spray should be ok, too) and put them on the floor around my bed. Guess what? Mosquitos stop coming. People say the reason is catnip is a speical kind of mint and mosquitos hate mint.
If you are experiencing the simliar trouble, don't haste to try this.
