History in the making

Well, no mater how you look at it, we're going to either have our first non-white President, or our first non-male Vice-President.

All politics aside; I think this is good for America.  Now, all kids everywhere, can truly believe in the possiblity of one day becoming President.

Charlie.

Well said Charlie. But as a woman, I still say Go Obama!

Hi thdd - Let me add a rousing ME TOO!  I have always considered Alaskan politics to be separate from the rest of the US until today when someone on another site mentioned "there goes the Alaskan Wildlife Preserve".  This woman has some positive qualities but too many minuses for me - I wouldn't be voting in that direction no matter what running mate he chose.  I just hope that women aren't going to go that way simply because she is a "woman".

Let me see,

- Right to life and loves her down syndrome child
- OK to drill in the small ANWAR mosquitoe patch and complete a natural gas pipeline (yea, more caribou and lower fuel prices)
- Fair enforcement of our environmental laws (reference ANWAR above)
- NRA Member and support of the second amendment
- Twenty year successful marriage with no scandals.
- A son proudly going to the now peaceful Iraq (no mention of any problems in the NY Times or CNN – must be true)
- Union member and husband in the Steelworkers Union
- More experience than Obama
- Root out corruption – in both parties.
- School vouchers
- Free markets
- Competition in health care not socialized medicine
- Fired do-nothing bureaucrats
- Nomination comes during the 88th anniversary of women earning the right to vote

What’s not to like?   Alaska only?  Sounds like most of the fly over country to me.

Gee, I think I said "all politics aside"?  I just wanted to point out that something is now possible and very realistic for the children of today, which was thought to be impossible (not to mention it being referred to as a fantasy) by the children of my youth.  My mom like the mom's of so many others, was born into an America where women were second class citizens and couldn't vote, and those of color were also treated that way in the that way, especially in the south, even though they did technically have the right to vote.  I just wanted to point out that the great experiment in Democracy that is America, is continuing to evolve in positive ways.

One of my greatest thrills and eye openers, was having the opportunity to speak with two former slaves, and to listen to their stories, when visiting nursing homes with my mother, when I was a kid.  I was experiencing the living memory of a bygone era.  Ever since, my ears perk up and I listen closely, when elders tell their stories.

Anyway, my point was to show how far America has come, socially.
