Brokers handling non-luxury rentals?

I'm in the market for a 1Br for Oct 1 and would like to check out some of the units available outside of the hi-rise/luxury district. Can anyone point me in the direction of a few brokers? I've been checking out CL but the listings there are fairly sparse.
