GPS doesn't have ACTIVE turn by turn YET. Apple said it was coming, it will come. You are also missing the other 100 or so applications that CAN use your GPS data for social networking and finding things.
As someone who actually OWNS both (old and new) I can tell you the new one has the following new cool things:
- GPS (location and tracking, which the old didn't) It mapped me down to 10 feet
- Bigger (in my case, an upgrade to 16GB)
- Better speaker phone, it is at least 25 louder
- No more recessed headset
Besides, there is no debate about old iPhone vs New because you can't buy the old. The new is a better phone, it is a cheaper purchase price and still the best phone out there by a mile.

My wife had a better luck at the ATT store, ordered her white iphone on Friday and got a call over the weekend to come pick it up as it was in.
I will have to wait till October when my current ATT contract expires, as I would not pay the full price. $500 or $600. I would not pay $600 for Razr either, but that is all fashion, not any new functionality.
has anyone signed up for Apple's mobile me service? i checked out the guided tour on the site the other night and it looked pretty cool.
During the launch of the iPhone 3G, new App Store and all the rest, MobileMe got beat down. Apple actually gave all users a free 30 days on their subscription.
As a functional thing, it is VERY cool. Anything I put in MobileMe or iPhone pushes to all the other devices which is really nice. Also, I sync all my documents so they are available on my laptop and desktop (and web).
Worth $99? Yes, maybe.
I use the family edition, which is $149 and allows me to have me and 4 other family members.
