FOODCELLAR - BAD BUSINESS!
Up to Neighborhood Discussion
Hi Bulf. Teetle McBride, eh? How about Dr. Sigmond Amondier, or bugsbunny, or R. Belhinge? They could all be one person, trying out knew "personalites"; just for kicks. What do you think?
Charlie.

I have stopped into Food Cellar a few times, to fill in between trips to Key Food or Stop n' Shop. I think lots of the items are overpriced, but if you're an "educated consumer" you can get out of there in one piece. Organic or "Conventional" bananas are all $.0.69/lb. The berries were fairly priced this weekend. I'm willing to pay a tad more for meat and fish, it's nice to finally have that available in the neighborhood, and they do run weekend sales. Their cheese selection is great, and they have dropped the prices on certain things. I was happy to see my more "pedestrian" Dannon yogurt...a few cents more than Vernon Blvd but good in a pinch and to save the walk. I can't see how they can charge almost $10 for a roast chicken---they are very small, and who cares, once they are spinning on a rotisserie, if they freely roamed some range. That's twice the price of Costco or Key Food. I'm sure the owners have some 'buying power' if they are from the Amish Market. Duane Reade's jugs of water are more expensive than Food Cellar. I haven't compared the milk prices at Duane Reade versus any deli's on Vernon.
Re: Duane Reade--it's nice to have a drug store with such a huge variety (the one on Vernon is pretty stale...) but I thought it was pretentious to have the Bumble & Bumble shampoo on a display near the door, at $60.00 a bottle. We may pay a bit less to buy or rent than NYC, but puhleeze. To each his or her own---it's good to be able to go to another aisle and get shampoo for a few bucks. We've waited a long time for a grocery store and pharmacy. Metfoods will be great for competition. Bring it. And a middle school, and a library...but that's for another post.

Hey charlie - Let's not forget grandpa. He was the ringleader of that gang! Bugs pretended to be a resident at East Coast. Now he has moved on to Avalon under a new guise. Next thing you know grandpa will be popping up as a disgruntled resident in Riverview Gardens (the senior bldng
