Dunkin Donuts
Up to Neighborhood Discussion
If this is true, I am really torn. Part of me LOVES Dunks, but the other part really doesn't want to see chains show up in our hood.
Thoughts?

Hi Jake - I have some thoughts on the subect. This rumor was also reported by a commenter on Liqcity. I believe that as retail spaces in the new buildings become available and as the population continues to grow along with foot traffic, there will be chains cropping up here. I have no strenuous objections to a "Dunkin"; however,. I would strongly object to big box stores such as Best Buy and mass merchandisers such as KMart. I would hope that "boutique" type chains who merchandise their branches to suit the neighborhood in which they open would choose to come to Hunters Point. The rents in those spaces will not be tailored to suit the person just "starting out" This is not the Williamsburg or EV of old where young designers were able to open on a "shoe string" and make it!
" I like donuts but I don't like Best Buy?" There are more Dunkin Donut locations than Best Buys. Chains are inevitable. It happened in Manhattan and it will happen here. I'd love to be able to buy music or a TV somewhere in walking distance. I love the coffee at Sweetleaf and don't see the need for Dunkin donuts. that said, at least someone is interested in opening retail here! Hopefully it will be a combo with Baskin Robbins. AND, at least we have a real drug store now.
