BANY

I am surprised nobody has written anything about the new restaurant opening (BANY), so I am going to start.

I am always excited to get a new addition to the neighborhood and I do hope they all succeed. I ordered my first order from them this past weekend and while I haven't tried too much yet, I was not impressed with the food and thought the pricing was very high. Some Examples:

Mango Chicken $15 versus Tuk Tuk at $10. I am very happy with Tuk Tuk Mango Chicken and do not thing I will try the same dish for $5 more. If someone has tried it, please let me know how it compares.

Sushi - I got a sushi roll and california roll. The sushi was not bad, but compared to Lucky Mojo's, it just didn't compare. The prices were in line with Lucky Mojo's. For sushi, I will continue with Lucky Mojo's.

Chicken Pad Thai - For me, this is the downer for this restaurant. I love a good chicken pad thai. Tuk Tuk, to me, has a nice flavorful chicken pad thai. I found BANY's pad thai to be incredibly bland. It was also $9 versus $8 at Tuk Tuk.

That is all I have tried so far, and I really am not itching to go back. I hope someone can offer opinions on the other dishes, because if there is something that people recommend, I would gladly give it a second chance.

Again, I welcome all new restaurants and wish them all well, but I am also confused on the opening of this restaurant and then another Asian restaurant around the corner (Ishiran??) when there is already Tuk Tuk and Lucky Mojo's for sushi. Seems like too many Asian themed restaurants in that 2 block area. Hopefully, QW is growing enough to support them.

Now, how about just a nice good Mexican restaurant. I do like Creek and the Cave, but don't consider that really Mexican (although it is definitely influenced). I want a place that has good enchiladas (with different sauce types), burritos, tacos, quesadillas, etc...

Anyone else have opinions of BANY?

I got their golden crispy tofu salad thing, I thought it was delicious. Have not tried the sushi.

Judging from their menu and the prices of sushi, especially the lunch specials, I would say they are more than fair. Good selection of rolls too. I haven't been to lucky mojos so have no way of comparing.

Also, Pad Thai is traditonally made with shrimp, tofu and peanuts. I saw "pad thai" on the menu at BANY but no "chicken pad thai".

Creek and the Cave is really not good at all IMO. Burritos are overpriced and bland; beer selection is boring; service is always lazy and awkward; and your side with a 9 dollar chicken burrito is more chips.

If you want good mexican food I suggest Acalpulco in Greenpoint.

I was there on Friday and I actually thought their sashimi was pretty good and slightly cheaper than Lucky Mojo's.
