I don't think many people showed up for the meeting last night.  DEC announced that the northern section of Queens West was going to be remediated under tents.  They will post information on progress at this site

QWDC - Stage 2 Remediation

PROJECT SUMMARY

TRC has entered into a contract with Rockrose GC QW Sitework LLC (Rockrose), Queens West Development Corporation (QWDC) and PepsiCo for the remediation of pre-existing pollution conditions at the Queens West Stage 2 Site (“Site”).

This 21-acre Site is a former industrial property located along the East River between 47th Road , 5th Street and the 11th Street Basin in Long Island City , Queens County New York.

QWDC, Rockrose and TRC have entered into a Voluntary Cleanup Agreement with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). This program requires all work to be performed in accordance with NYSDEC-approved plans that cover all aspects of the environmental investigation, remediation and subsequent monitoring. The Volunteers have implemented a comprehensive insurance, risk management and financial assurance program issued by AIG Environmental, a member company of the American International Group.

In its role as the remediation contractor, TRC has assumed responsibility for remediation of pollution conditions. TRC is responsible for managing the work of its subcontractors and for directly executing the environmental remediation activities. In addition, TRC is responsible for regulatory compliance matters, including permitting and final closure of the Site from future environmental liabilities associated with pre-existing conditions. Remediation work under the contract is expected to take approximately four years to achieve substantial completion.

QWDC is constructing infrastructure at the Site, including roads, parks and a waterfront promenade. Rockrose plans to construct new residential and commercial buildings on Site in accordance with approved building plans.

The second phase of site cleanup at the former PepsiCo bottling facility in Long Island City is set to begin this spring.
The site, 9.5 acres of land along the East River, will be home to four new buildings constructed by Rockrose Development Corp. Rockrose has already erected three buildings — one pending completion — on the adjacent lot.

The remediation site consists of two properties owned by Queens West Development Corp. in the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s Voluntary Cleanup Program. The site’s remedial engineer is TRC Companies Inc. Posillico is conducting the cleanup.
The project’s boundaries are Anable Basin to the north, high-rise residential buildings to the south, the East River to the west and 5th Street to the east.
