Drama in the hood

Posted by dd at August 15. 2008

Just witnessed a big NYPD response culminating in Gantry Park with the arrest of a young guy who apparently robbed 3 different places (don't know which places). He is handcuffed and they are now looking for the gun he threw off the pier and into the river... Well... at least I don't think anyone was hurt... In my experience this is generally a very safe neighborhood... glad they got this guy off the street!

This post is the first and last that I've read or seen about this "incident." Has anyone else heard anything? What stores or places were robbed on Vernon? It seems to me that a police takedown in broad daylight and a gun being chucked into the river would warrant some conversation.

I witnessed the nypd scuba diving in the east river off one of the piers for the gun.  The perp was there, handcuffed.  There were a lot of people watching to see if they got the gun.  I didn't stick around to see what happened, and don't know anything about the robberies.

Thanks for the updates. I'll keep checking the 108 pct crime blotter to get the story. The price of organic blueberries was getting more attention than an armed robbery. I just found that a bit odd.
