Cranky's Cafe

Posted by licme at January 05. 2010

The new cafe is open in the old Brasil Coffee House space on Vernon Blvd.

Has anyone been yet? www.crankyscafe.com

I have not been to Cranky's, but I will say I wish it was Cafe Grumpys. www.cafegrumpy.com, no disrespect to sweetleaf, which I love!

Went twice. Had their carrot ginger soup and breakfast burrito. Both of them yummy. The French girl behind the counter is so sweet and the service is excellent.

Swanky, I must disagree.

I asked the French girl behind the counter for a small coffee, but put in in a large cup.  This is because I like to use milk instead of half and half in my coffee.  She kept trying to overcharge me.  First, she charged me for two large coffees.  Luckily, I could see the register and what she was punching in.  When I told her that was wrong and explained again what I wanted, she charged me for a large and a small.  Again, I tried to explain the complicated process of small coffee in the large cup and she tried to charge me for two smalls.  By this time, there was a line forming and I had been patiently trying to explain this concept to her for 11 or 12 minutes.

Finally, the manager came over and did it for me.  All this hassle, and all he offered me was a small cracker from the "freebies" plate.

The coffee itself was mediocre.  Sweetleaf's Stumptown coffee is far and away better.

I wish Brasil Coffee House was still here.

Brasil coffee house was okay.  Cranky's has a great, clean & refreshing atmosphere...not to mention delicious gourmet food...and excellent coffee!  Staff has been warm and inviting every time I've gone in.  To comment on the message above...having worked in the food business before, ordering a small coffee in a large cup is only fair if you pay for the large cup. Otherwise...kind of a taboo.

My friends and I are DEFINITELY coming back...rotisserie chicken & flank steak sandwich were juicy and AMAZING, as were the beet salad & mac & cheese!

Coffeejunkie:

1) If I understand you correctly, as an expert having worked in the food business, the customer should pay full price for a larger cup even if he/she is not getting more product?

2) I have never had any other coffee place try to charge me extra when I have gotten a small coffee in a larger cup.  Since you are implying that this is a standard industry practice, would you be able to provide me with examples of other coffee shops that do this?

Thanks.
