Here are Nolan's notes:
October 17, 2007
Statement of Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan
While I applaud all efforts to develop Hunters Point South to its full potential for the families of our city, precautions must be in place to assure the community that past promises are kept. Surely we should all agree that Queens West (North) should be actualized as the dynamic, livable community we all envisioned—prior to the start of a new community at Queens West South.
Let’s complete the job of Queens West North before we embark on another unfinished community.
The original Queens West infrastructure should be completed with:
· a modernized police precinct house for the 108th precinct
· the re opening of closed fire house, Engine Company 261, and expansion of fire service
· expansion of PS 78 to K-8
· a middle school in Queens West
· the Bard Early College High School opening for Queens students boro wide in Queens West
· improved and accessible bus service in Queens West including expansion of existing bus routes and creation of a new bus line
· creation of a stand alone library
· upgrades to the existing subway stations including ADA access to Vernon Jackson on the #7
· a unified park structure—either city or state, but not competing entities with different rules and administration
· A suitable senior citizen center at St. Mary’s Senior Center which is now scheduled to close.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this important issue.
