LIC Crime

Hello,

I have a very odd question.... I am a journalism student covering LIC for the semester, and I would like to write an article about crime in the neighborhood. More specifically, I would like to profile a victim/victims of a particular crime, focusing on how the experience has affected their lives.

I hope this doesn't come across as exploitative of other people's difficulties -- really, I am hoping to shed light on a problem in the neighborhood and its impact.

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have any ideas for leads, important crime-related issues, etc. I figured that asking the residents would be the best place to start before approaching "official" sources like the police precincts, etc.

Thank you and I very much hope to hear from some of you!

Jennie

I have found very little crime in the five years I have lived in Hunters Point/Queenswest. A few drunks causing some vandalism. Having the 108 Pct. right in the middle of everything seems to help.

Hi Jennie
The Hunters Point area of LIC has a very low crime rate. I would suggest that you contact the Community Affairs Officers at the 108 Precinct. They might be able to direct you to an area that better suits your purpose.

Thanks to both of you for replying. It really does seem like the crime rate is low, which of course is a great thing!

I did hear about a stabbing that occurred at McReilly's that I am going to try and investigate.

Thanks again!

Jennie

We have been in the neighborhood for 10 years and have experienced no crime other than graffiti, litter and a sudden increase of dog poop in Gantry Park.
Please take a look at the forum rules and FAQ section.
