Has anyone noticed the terrible smell in the air the last couple of days, which I assume is from the Newtown Creek?

It smells like sewage and has been bad for the past week. I notice it when I get off the subway on Vernon. Could it be all the new buildingg putting strain on a 100+ year old sewage system?

It was coming from the newly upgraded Newtown Creek Sewage Treatment Plant upwind. Let's hope the wind shifts back to "normal".

They used to disquise it with something that smelled like scented candles - a little sweet but much more desirable than the sewage stench.

As mentioned, its from the treatment plant. One can usually smell it in greenpoint as you get on the pulaski bridge from McGuinness. Never smelled it in LIC. I bet its because of the unusually air stagnation (no breeze or wind) over the past few days.
