Rally
Up to Neighborhood Discussion
Hope those of you who support the library for Parcel 8 come out next Thursday at 11:30AM to join our rally. It will be on Parcel 8 & the school kids will be joining us!
Eric Gioia will also be attending this rally and encourages everyone in the neighborhood to come out and join us! I am pasting below a letter from Councilman Gioia about the library rally and hope to see everyone on Thursday.

Dear Neighbor:
I am writing to you regarding a new library for Long Island City at Queens West. Thank you for signing a petition for the library; your participation and continued support will be critical to our success. To further show your support for the library, please join us for a:
Library Rally
with Citizens for Queens West Parcel 8 Library
Thursday, November 16, at 11:30 am
Parcel 8 (48th Avenue and Center Street)
Improving our schools and ensuring that every child in our neighborhood has access to a first rate education is my top priority. Having a library on the waterfront across the street from P.S. 78 – a library where school children can do their homework, explore a world of books, think and grow – is a critical part of my vision for Long Island City. Our neighborhood is growing, and as it does, we must ensure that we hold true to the values that have made us who we are.
I write to you as more than your elected official, but also as a community resident and a new father. I know firsthand how vitally important this library is for our neighborhood. When I was growing up in Woodside, every day after school I walked across the street from P.S. 11 to the public library. The education I received at P.S. 11, complemented by the public library, enabled me to attend NYU and Georgetown Law School, work in the White House for President Clinton, and now serve you in the City Council. Every child in our neighborhood deserves the same opportunity.
I have been very happy to help secure $2 million in City funding to date towards construction of this library. My partners in government, Borough President Helen Marshall, Assemblywoman Cathy Nolan, and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, have also secured funding for this project. For a public-private partnership to work however, all parties must do their share. And that’s why we need to rally as a community and show Avalon and the Queens West Development Corporation that we will not stand for further delays.
Please feel free to call me at 718.383.9566 should you have any questions about how you can assist in bringing a library to Queens West or if you have any other ideas on how we can work together to improve our neighborhood. I look forward to seeing you at 11:30am on Thursday!
Sincerely yours,
Eric Gioia

Good turnout at the Library Rally today with a wide range of supporters including school kids, teachers, politicians and neighborhood folks.
Looks like Eric Gioia is becoming the point man for the project. All pressure will be directed toward Avalon to start making good on their promise of soil remitigation and initial construction.
I suggested stopping the construction of the additional floors given to Avalon North until the library is started.
