Thanks Jake - glad to be back on board.  If there isn't room for a tree in that pit, perhaps they could put in some attractive flowering shrubbery around it.  I think at this point that any plantings might have to wait until spring.  I think they have to find trees that suit "life on the riverfront" - the trees on the 4th floor terrace of Avalon seem well suited to the environment - they are green and graceful and bend and bow to the winds and rain and just keep on growing
