STATE PARKS ANNOUNCES FREE CONCERT SERIES: ROCKIN’ ON THE RIVER AT GANTRY PLAZA STATE PARK, LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS
(New York, NY, June 8, 2006…) New York Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce a FREE concert series at Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City, Queens, featuring swing, the fabulous 50’s and Latin jazz.
All performances will be held on Fridays under the Park’s historic gantries between 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
July 14th
“The Latin Jazz Ensemble” featuring the incomparable vibraphone of Steve Pouchie begins this summer’s concert series with a vibrant mix of jazz and salsa.
July 21st
“Swingadelic” a “little” big band and orchestra, playing the music of Ellington and Basie promises to have the crowd dancing under the stars!
July 28th
“Straight Ahead” will rock the house. Their music includes R&B classics and oldies but goodies from the50’s and 60’s
In case of rain, performances will be on the Sunday following the event,
between 7:00 - 9:00 PM.
Gantry Plaza State Park is located at 50th Ave. and Center Blvd. in Long Island City and is easily accessible by public transportation. Take the #7 train to Vernon Blvd./Jackson Ave. station or the B61 or Q103 to Vernon Blvd. and Jackson Ave. and walk to the East River.
