EC2 Gym Conditions
Up to EastCoast Discussion
So I'm going to try my best not to make this sound like a rant because that does nothing, but seriously, the EC2 gym could be great... Except for one thing... the management of the employees and condition of the area. I wouldn't mind anywhere near as much if I wasn't paying for this. EC1 is free, and I take what I get, keep the machines clean and in working order and I'm happy. But the minute I pay extra for a gym... I expect gym service.
1. The pool - Uhm, where's the life guard at? The gentlemen who work the position are never there when I get to the pool door. I always have to call down and summon their presence which takes anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes. Once the guy was just sitting down stairs at the main entrance surfin myspace... Best part was, he saw me walk in with all my swim stuff and head up to the pool. Otherwise, the pool is kept clean and fairly temperature regulated for extended swimming times.
2a. Locker rooms - For a paying club locker room they could try and put some things in there people use. Towels? Nope, no towels. It took 5 months before they put in a hair dryer. No lotions, no q-tips, no anything necessary if I went there before work so I could just leave from there when done with my workout and shower. Speaking of the shower, (in the mens room) it's broken. Today, no hot water. Also, no water pressure. I think my brita refills itself at a faster pace.
2b. Locker room amenities (Sauna / Steam Room) - It's really great this club has those, especially since not every NYSC in the city even has them. But, they're set too low! The minute the dry sauna gets hot, the alarm goes off with a screeching beep that can be heard throughout the floor making you turn it down. It registers 190 degrees when it starts, most other places regulate the temperature at 194-198. The steam room, an abysmal 107 (should be over 130), oh and sans the steam.
3. The gym - Not too much bad to say about the gym itself. Personally I'd like to see more variety (boxing equipment) but that's just an opinion and not a big deal.
4. Hours - Why not stay open until midnight? I get kicked out at 9:45 every night (except weekends when it's 10:45). I keep late hours, so I don't get to use the place as much as I'd like.
5. Entrance - Nothing is better than standing outside in the cold because the crew at EC2 decided to lock the EC1 residents way in. No big deal right, I have a key fob that gains me access. Oh wait, no, it doesn't work half the time. I had it reprogrammed thinking it was my fob, but no again, found out it's not just me. They disable the entrance way at certain times (tonight it was at 8pm... gym closes at 10 or 11 tonight).
I'm really curious what other people think of the place, I left some minor issues out because I didn't want to sound too nit-picky. I'll be writing to club management soon, which is separate from Rockrose I believe. We'll see what happens.
