How Much To Tip?

I questions about tipping and I bet you due too.

This is my 1st year at city lights. I understand that the building has a holiday pool for the employees of the building. How does it work when we contribute to the pool? Do they know how much each of us gives? Who manages the pool? How much is appropriate to give to the pool? Are the health club employees included? Do the employees of the building get a bonus from the operating expense? I do not make much money and I do not get yearly bonuses only a merely 3% increase in salary. I know that everyone is not as generous but others are very generous so it balances out.

$25 x 575 apt = $14,375 ÷ by 15 people $958 tax free each

$50 x 575 apt = $28,750 ÷ by 15 people $1,917 tax free each

$75 x 575 apt = $43,125 ÷ by 15 people = $2,875 tax free each

$100 x 575 apt = $57,500 ÷ by 15 people $3,833 tax free each

We just give $100 to the pool. The coop already gives the employees a big christmas bonus. We don't have a lot of money either. Although, I have heard from neighbors who have given alot of money and later felt bad about it because some of the doormen were ungrateful.

You know what is strange? That is really true - I really felt the cold shoulder from some of them, even though I thought I was quite generous. Why do you think that is?

The doormen have their cronies. Do you notice that three weeks before Christmas they all of a sudden start acknowledging that you are alive--they start saying hello. Don't get me wrong most of them are nice guys but they don't act like concierge should. I know that Rob sometimes acts like he is being degraded when I ask him to do something. If you feel that way about your job find a new profesion.

i dont ask any of them to do anything for me beyond hitting the button to open the slider and that seems to be too much trouble for them. if i tip this year it wont be more than 50 to the pool. i feel bad doing it because the guys who deserve it (the porters) get jerked but i dont want to give money to those who do not act the way they should. why not give to individuals? because im not going to slip them 10-20 a piece, and to give them less seems insulting. give to the pool and walk away.
