Hello,

Your friendly webmaster here. I just wanted to to what reaction there would be if I added registration to the site (free of course). You would basically have to register to post messages to the boards, but would have your own area and would be able to submit articles and other kinds of bits.

What say? Would you all take off? Would it matter at all?

Would it mean that we had to login every time we post or read?

And why?

Here's one example. NYPost site is easily accessable without registration. You can read all the articles at will. NYTimes however makes you register and login everytime you want to read an article. That one step is a major annoying hinderance. Hell, I like Post anyway but I did read the Times too, before they did this.

For this site, I would still come but maybe less frequently if I had to sign in and out every time.

What would be the purpose of requiring registration.....I'm generally not happy about giving out personal information online.

Ok... no.. you would not have to sign in and out everytime. You could still do everything you do now without registering. There would be some things that you could not do without registering (like posting to a discussion board and personalization stuff, bookmarks, favorites, home pages).

Hey Mark,

No personal information. Just your email address to send your password.

I guess the reason would be to allow more customization of the site, like a Yahoo, Excite and to allow for personalization. For those things you would be prompted for a password. The site, though, would be completely open.
