You will never get another building built as fast as the Empire State Building. From groundbreaking to completion was about 18 months. It was also a steel building.

The Riverview is a concrete building. It takes a couple of days for concrete to cure. As a result, you cannot build faster than the cure rate of the concrete. Is two floors a week possible? Absolutely. But they'll never get four floors a week. It takes a good portion of one day to jump the crane alone, and I'm not sure if they are allowed to do it on a Sunday. If everything goes well, they'll top out in September or so, and still have time to open to the public by the Spring.

By the way...does anyone know if the Riverview 1 is supposed to have a garage? From the webcam pictures, it looks as if they are pouring ramps wide enough for cars. It is difficult to see for sure though.

Yes, there will be a garage, although it will not be visible from the street like the Citylights garage. Also, there will be many fewer spaces than our garage ( I recall something in the 125-150 range.) So, if it fills up, there maybe some demand for our garage from the Avalon residents.

In defense of State DOT and its contractors, please keep in mind that the LIE job is being done mostly at night and between 10 am and 3 pm, with at least 4 lanes of heavy mixed traffic (6 in rush hours). While keeping the work force and traveling public safe.
Imagine totally demolishing and rebuilding City Lights while it is 75% occupied. In addition, the contractor gets a big $ bonus for finishing early, and a hefty $ fine for being late.
