Message from Councilman Gioia's office regarding MTA Tunnel Fan Noise

Posted by Dave Arnold at June 17. 2009
To all Citylights residents affected by the MTA tunnel fan noise:

After numerous conversations with MTA officials in the preceding weeks, I was informed that the MTA would be installing smaller, portable fans to cut down on noise. So, when the noise was eliminated late last week, we thought the problem had been resolved.

However, I've since discovered that the noise has not stopped. I know all of you discovered this the hard way early this week when the fan noise resumed.

According to the MTA, the track construction taking place is "once in a decade" kind of work. And, like all of you, we understand that the MTA needs to make consistent track repairs to ensure that the system operates efficiently.

That being said, we're continuing to work with the MTA, and I will keep everyone updated. This has been very frustrating for me, but I know it's been worse for everyone at Citylights. Thank you for your patience, and I assure you we will continue to work on the issue.

Today, someone was kind enough to send us homemade video/audio of the fan noise, and I ask anyone else who has a camera to do the same. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to call me at 718.383.9566 or email me darnold@council.nyc.gov

Sincerely,

Dave Arnold
