contractor/electrician

Posted by Melissa Paige at July 02. 2008
I am looking to put pot lights and other lighting in my apartment at citilights. There are no ceiling lighting and the ceilings are made of cement. Can anyone recommend a good electrician/ contractor that has already been approved by the board and SOMEONE WHO IS REASONABLE. Melissa

I will paste in a post that Larry D put up about a year ago. My wife and I went with Frank Miano and he did a nice job installing lights, getting rid of popcorn, painting, and running water to fridge. One of the most helpful posts I've seen on the this site..

We selected Jack Missina as our contractor (631-226-5924) He was $10K less than the others with line by line quote and would let you do what you were willing. He only has a 3-4 person crew and you must be patient with his timing as he can't say no to a job. If he is between jobs he is great, on time and fully backs his work. He is currently doing a kitchen in Citylights and completed a wall to wall renovation in July.

Close second was John Kilcarr, great work in Citylights, but no detail pricing. 646-554-4001. Promised he would, after he lost with a high bid.

Frank Miano, Improvement Pros – 917-882 8683 did not show us his work so we didn't get a bid. But we saw his work this week and he did a great job and was their low bidder. He does contract out to others, though, so quality may vary.

Rafal Ebertowski 862-686-2630, great work in Citylights, but dropped out of bidding due to another project.

Bobby J. Enterprise 631-726-1405 Does work in Manhattan. Had a high, non detailed bid.

If you need floors or counter tops, our Granite came from SMC Stone in Brooklyn: www.smcstone.com

I just did a complete renovation of my kitchen with a great contractor that is building approved. Extremely reasonable and got back to me with quotes and a schedule right away. His name is Glen Shivprashad at 646-489-1123. Rafal was a close 2nd from the above list. The others i tried getting a bid from and never heard back, all seemed nice though.

He did a fantastic job in my apartment for 1/3 to half the price of the other guys and he did all of the work in 1/4 of the time.  He had his paperwork in order, got approved by the building the same day and got along well with the building staff.  In fact, one of them was working with him (not on electricity, on something else in the apt) and he recommends him to other people in the building as well.  Trust me, use Boris and you will not regret it.  I can't speak highy enough about him.

I forgot to mention: Boris is just an electrician, though, he is not a gc.
