The past two evenings I have heard an incredibly loud noise that sounds like an exhaust fan or almost like the largest lawnmower you've ever heard. It has started around 3:30 or 4:00 in the morning, and lasts for over a half-hour. We face south - and I think it is coming from that direction. Has anyone else heard this or can anyone tell me what this is. It's been loud enough to wake me up and keep me up. Just curious...

it has woken me up a number of times recently.  it is the exhaust fan.  complain!  i sent emails off to the MTA, DEP and Eric Gioia's office.  Gioia's office is the only place that responded.  they contacted me for more information so that they could be fully informed when they reached out to the MTA.  In addition to the sleep disturbance, you have to wonder what kind of junk they are sending into the air.  don't call 311 on this, they will just tell you that you have to complain to the MTA.  Honestly, i think MTA is not going to take any action without a lot of pressure from other places.
