5th Floor School Play Area proposal
Up to Citylights Discussion
i am not to sure why $600,000 has been raised to build a open air site? meaning the outdoor play area. the yankees' net man yeasterday said the net over the fans for home plate was not even close to $150,000.
people... the dept of ed wants there to be an open air system over the play area.
if anyone thinks this should be more than a ball net please raise you hand!!! you are all being screwed!
on your dime and mostly at he cost the children.
the kids need a place to play everyday for 30 minutes a day. tell the department of construction to put up a fly ball net or let them play out front were there is plenty of space duing the day! it is realy that simple.
lots of luck!

Sorry, I don't want a "ball net" the only thing between my kids head and a planted both that gets blown off a balcony 30 stories up.

Jake,
You're right...
I sat in on the meeting with the architects ( I am one myself) and the Principal of PS78, and the canopy has to satisfy same fairly rigid structural requirements (impact as well as wind loads, etc.). Chain link won't do it. 1/4" thick stainless steel (perforated) will, but the board objected to to this on the grounds that it would be too reflective , so I believe they are now reviewing options for some kind of coated steel, or perhaps zinc plated steel, very much like the canopy structures along 48th Ave. at Hunter Point Community Park, and those in Gantry Plaza State Park.
