"A group of concerned neighborhood residents have set up a community meeting open to the public with our State Assembly (37th District) person, Catherine Nolan. The meeting will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at 7:00 p.m.
The location of the meeting is the school cafeteria on the 2nd Floor of Public School 78 (Robert Wagner Jr School) in the Citylights building at 48-09 Center Boulevard, LIC, NY 11109.
The meeting will be largely informational to help educate the community about the changes to the Queens West Master Plan that Avalon Bay requested for Parcels 8 and 9 and which Queens West Development Corporation has approved. Representatives of Avalon Bay and QWDC are not expected. This is a chance for the community to learn more about the situation and find out from a public official what might be done to stop a major master plan amendment process which so far has not sought or incorporated any meaningful input from the Hunter's Point community. Next steps and ideas for collective action will be a focus."

" Our dazzling, state-of-the-art pyrotechnics will launch from our traditional East River firing locations between 23rd and 42nd Streets. And again this year, in conjunction with the Downtown New York City River to River Festival, Macy's is extending the show downtown, with an incredible display just south of the the South Street Seaport. The South Street Seaport/Brooklyn location will feature two barges stationed between the boroughs of Brooklyn (between Joralemon and Montague Streets) and Manhattan (between Broad and Wall Streets). "

The community has been lobbying for months to get QWDC to provide the Hunters Point community with a comprehensive briefing regarding the master
plan changes being pushed by Avalon and Rockrose. On November 17, interested members of the Hunters Point community will finally be able to see how the proposed changes will look collectively, rather than just in
isolation, and also how they interrelate to one another.
In addition, community representatives will also discuss details regarding the formation of a "community advisory committee" that will assist our neighborhood in evaluating and disseminating information regarding the master plan changes discussed at the briefing.
Jamie's Ball
(110 University Place (above Bowlmore), from

01/16/2005 01:00)
This year we are expanding The Ball to make this one of the premiere events of the New Year - a party that people will be looking forward to next year. Were going to have a much larger, kick-a$$ venue that can handle all the people were going to draw. This years donations will go to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, as part of the Peloton Project.
The Peloton Project is the LAF's major grassroots fundraising and outreach initiative. Comprised of cyclists, cancer survivors and other volunteers who want to make a difference in the cancer survivorship community, members raise funds and awareness for the LAF in their local communities.
Now, do you really think we'd ask for a donation and not offer something in return? Hells no! We are going to have drawings throughout the night for all kinds of awesome prizes, including an iPod Mini and a brand new Tivo. We will also have drink specials, some notable New York City DJs and special guest MCs Sid and Buddy. Those of you who have attended The Ball in previous years know that we throw a killer party. So, help us get the word out and tell all your friends - everyone's welcome!
